She/Her/Hers
Hello! My name is Shabad Kaur (shuh-bhid k-ar), and I’ve been practicing psychotherapy for over thirty years but I didn’t start out my career that way.
Originally, I went to my undergrad at Columbia and became a graphic designer, pursuing my passions for art. But after spending time in the field, I found myself wanting my work with art to be more personal and impactful. It was this realization which led me to begin studying to become an expressive arts therapist, and ultimately expand into marriage and family therapy and clinical professional counseling.
Around the time I began working on my graduate degree I also began practicing yoga, my practice eventually developed into a lifestyle and soon I began teaching yoga eventually opening a non-profit yoga studio.
I found that I most enjoy providing clients with the support of the therapeutic relationship and helping them discover the power of their own self-healing potential so that they can grow and develop outside the treatment hour and into the future.
I love my work. I see therapy as a sacred space and a unique relationship, offering hope and healing for those who are carrying pain in their heart, their psyche and their soul.
